Warm barley Talbina porridge
Barley Comfort Jar
An Ancient Comfort, Ready in Minutes.
Toasted barley, dates, almonds, coconut & raisins — a warm, spiced porridge inspired by Talbina, a comfort dish with roots in Islamic tradition. Boil, pour, stir.
$8 per jar · 8 oz jar · 100 g dry mix
What's in the jar
Toasted organic barley flour
Deglet Noor dates
Sliced almonds
Golden raisins
Unsweetened shredded coconut
Net weight: 100 g dry mix
Packed alongside the jar
Spice packet
Cardamom, nutmeg, cinnamon, sea salt and cane sugar, combined in one packet. Add to taste.
Primary method
Porridge — serve hot
- 1
Bring the liquid to a boil in a pot (about 1 cup / 8–10 oz for one jar).
- 2
Remove the pot from heat.
- 3
Empty the jar's dry mix and the spice packet into the pot.
- 4
Stir continuously until it thickens to your desired consistency — about 3 to 7 minutes.
Makes 1 generous bowl, or split into 2 smaller bowls.
Drink — serve hot
Use the same jar with more liquid instead — about 3.5 cups (28 oz) for 2 servings, or up to 7 cups (56 oz) for 4 servings. Bring the liquid to a boil in a pot, remove from heat, empty the jar's contents and spice packet into the pot, and stir until it reaches the thickness you want.
Choose your liquid
Dairy milk, coconut milk, or water. Always serve hot — the spices and flour don't dissolve properly when stirred cold.
